Valentine was born on February 14, 2002 in Genk, Belgium. She is a Flemish singer-songwriter and performs under the name “sonayou” which she invented in her early teens.

 

From an early age, Valentine was determined to make music her profession. From the age of 9 she sang in the Studio 100 choir for several years and at the same time she studied at the music academy of Maasmechelen, where she also learned to play the piano.

 

At the age of 12 she discovers K-pop (Korean pop music) which inspires her to focus on her singing abilities. Over the years, there have been several artists she looked up to, especially Ariana Grande. Soon Valentine starts writing her own songs and also teaches herself to play the guitar, ukelele and bass.

 

From the age of fifteen she starts producing her own songs and spends hours behind her laptop and microphone. In 2019 she released her first single under own management, followed by her first album titled “912” in 2020. Sonayou already performed in the Ancienne Belgique

 

Valentine competes in Humo's Rock Rally 2020 where she ends up in the semi-finals. Her second album "chaos" soon followed by which she provided the support act for OSKI, who also co-produced her penultimate new single "Ella". With “Ella”, sonayou takes a new step in her journey of discovery within poppy R&B. According to certain reviews, her best release to date.

 

Valentine's greatest asset is her powerful voice - in the past already compared to Ariana Grande, among others. She also proved this in the VTM program “I Can See Your Voice”, in which she participated as  “Rising star”. sonayou does not want to commit herself to one specific genre and that will also be audible in her third yet to be announced album.

 

Her latest single "Femme fatale" was released on February 14, 2023 and is available on all major streaming platforms. According to “Dansende Beren” the song starts off with a trippy trancebeat and matches the vibe of Lady Gaga in 2010 towards the end.

Valentine Musardo is geboren op 14 februari 2002 in Genk, België. Ze is een Vlaamse singer-songwriter en treedt op onder de naam “sonayou” die ze in haar prille tienertijd heeft uitgevonden.

 

Al op jonge leeftijd was Valentine vastberaden om van muziek haar beroep te maken. Vanaf 9-jarige leeftijd zong ze enkele jaren in het Studio 100 koor en tegelijk volgde ze een muzikale opleiding aan de muziek-academie van Maasmechelen waar ze ook piano leert spelen.

 

Vanaf haar twaalfde ontdekt ze K-pop (Koreaanse popmuziek) wat haar inspireert om zich te focussen op haar zangcapaciteiten. Door de jaren heen zijn er meerdere artiesten waarnaar ze opkijkt, maar Ariana Grande bewondert ze het meest. Al snel begint Valentine met het schrijven van haar eigen songs en leert ze zichzelf ook gitaar spelen.

 

Vanaf haar vijftiende start ze met het producen van haar eigen songs en zit ze uren achter haar laptop en microfoon. In 2019 brengt ze in eigen beheer haar eerste single uit waarop in 2020 haar eerste album met de titel 912 volgt. Hiermee stond ze onder andere in de Ancienne Belgique.

 

Vervolgens doet Valentine haar eerste wedstrijdervaring op in Humo’s Rock Rally 2020 waar ze in de halve finales beland. Haar tweede album “chaos” volgde al snel en hiermee verzorgde ze o.a. het voorprogramma van OSKI, die ook haar voorlaatste nieuwe single “Ella” co-producete. Met “Ella” zet sonayou een nieuwe stap in haar ontdekkingsreis binnen de poppy R&B. Volgens bepaalde recensies haar beste release tot hiertoe.

 

Valentine haar grootste troef is haar krachtige stem - in het verleden al vergeleken met onder andere Ariana Grande. Dit bewees ze ook al in het VTM-programma “I Can See Your Voice”, waarin ze deelnam als “Rising star”. sonayou wil zich niet vastleggen op één bepaald genre en dat zal ook hoorbaar zijn in haar derde nog aan te kondigen album.

Haar nieuwste single "Femme fatale" is gereleased op 14 februari 2023 en is verkrijgbaar op alle grote streaming platforms. Volgens “Dansende Beren” heeft deze song een trippy trancebeat aan het begin en naar het einde toe een Lady Gaga anno 2010 gevoel.
